1. RSPO – Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil

Certified palm oil follows specific criteria set by the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), with the aim of reducing the negative environmental and social impacts associated with palm oil cultivation.

Palm oil is one of the most widely consumed food ingredients in the world and is used in approximately half of all packaged food products.

Derived from the fruit of oil palm trees, palm oil is highly efficient and produced year-round. It is the highest-yielding vegetable oil crop, requiring less than half the land area needed by other oil-producing crops to generate the same amount of oil. One hectare of oil palm cultivation can yield up to an average of 6 tons of oil per year, making palm oil the most affordable vegetable oil globally.

2. What is RSPO Supply Chain Certification?

The RSPO Supply Chain Certification System is an independent chain of custody certification designed to verify that palm oil has been sourced sustainably and ethically from certified growers. It encompasses the entire supply chain — including refining, manufacturing, processing, transportation, and distribution — to provide your business with the traceability required to demonstrate the sustainability of your palm oil sourcing.

By achieving certification, you can validate your commitment to sustainable palm oil production and meet the expectations of both customers and end consumers.

3. How You Benefit

The core objective of RSPO is to promote the growth and use of sustainable palm oil through cooperation along the supply chain and open dialogue among stakeholders.

Growers are certified for a five-year period and are subject to annual assessments to ensure continued compliance.

RSPO certification can support better resource use and structured management practices, which may lead to increased profitability, improved planning, and reduced need for post-process verification.
